Living at Stoke

Life at Stoke Hospital

Stoke Hospital is a pleasant and convenient place to live. It is within level walking distance from Guildford town centre and there is a bus stop immediately outside. Local shops and services, including a general food store, a post office and a fish and chip shop are immediately opposite with some public houses nearby, and the large Waitrose supermarket is a five minute walk away. Stoke Park with its extensive open spaces and gardens is just around the corner.

The flats are all self-contained and well maintained. Residents need to be fully capable of independent living and can be as private as they wish while being willing to be part of a supportive community. There is no warden support, but all have access to an emergency alarm system that operates at all hours and on every day of the year. Two of the three blocks have stair lifts to provide easy access to and from the first floor. There is a laundry for residents’ use as well as beautiful gardens and also a communal lounge, which used to be the chapel.

The flats are for single occupancy. Current residents include both women and men, with ages ranging from the early 50s to 80+.

We carry out an annual residents’ satisfaction survey to ensure that residents’ views are collected regularly and acted on, to make the experience of living at Stoke Hospital as positive as possible.
